New Hope Academy (NHA) is an independent K-12 private school and preschool (PreK3 through 5) in Prince George's County. It opened in 1990 and is certified by the state of Maryland. The high school was established in 1998. NHA is a non-sectarian, non-denominational school, which emphasizes a strong academic program and character development based on family values universal to people of all faiths. Over 20 faiths and countries are represented, and the wide range of student ages represented at the school allows us to have a weekly mentoring program (for middle school students who work with students in the preschool and younger elementary grades). Each year we have between 12-14 international students. Recent students have come from: Korea, Rwanda, China, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, France, and Kosovo.
In addition to core subjects, the following specialty subjects are offered: Art, Music, Korean, Spanish, Physical Education, Food Technology, Computer Technology, and English as a Second Language. High School electives also include: techno-fitness, a rock band, chorus, golf, chess, drama, Spanish dance, psychology, speech, choreography, creative writing, contemporary issues, animation, and hip hop dance. After school activities include: robotics, drama, ballet, tap, Spanish dance, jazz, basketball, soccer, flag football, and private music lessons.
AP Calculus is offered in the High School. We have Honors Literature which is in the process of becoming an AP course. AP Biology and AP US History are also in the process of being established.
Computer Lab: We have 24 Pentium IV computers, allowing each student individual access to a computer during Technology class. Parents can communicate with teachers through voice mail and email, and homework is posted weekly online.
